DARZAMAT "Oniriad"
  • Album: Oniriad
  • Year: 2003
  • Artist:
  • Poland

This is just another disappointment, another album I have waited with maximum interest but turned out to be in lack of any vigour. DARZAMAT is known as non-conventional band and throughout their two albums released a few years ago, they actually managed to shock everybody. There were many rumours that the band just split but here they are bringing up a very different album from what we actually listened to in their music so far. On the Gothic Metal scale, the Poles have brought various kinds of stylistic tricks, from Metal Rock to Jazz, Electro or Ambient. In a shy Ethereal note, the new album reveals new female vocals, rather more fragile and timid, modest clear male vocals (sometimes even annoying for the ear), comfortable tunes (perhaps a little bit too commercial), an engaging rhythm and a monotonous atmosphere. I'd say there is a track that makes a discordant note, "Elegy", as it has a folk core, lightly medieval tunes completed in a Gothic shape in a very peculiar and exquisite manner. Otherwise, it is an album that pleases the ears, easy to digest but with an overall sensation of insufficiency.
