Rob Darken is a vivid legend for the Polish Black Metal scene and his involvement in such sonorities is out of any possible doubt. After more than ten years of activity in GRAVELAND, Rob returns with a conceptual album, which has the merit of reminding us of old "Immortal pride" or "Thousand Swords". If I need to be critical over this, I'd say that the new compositions have nothing new to present and everything is just what once BATHORY already was. If I have to compare it with the previous materials, I must say that GRAVELAND brings now more complex sequences, longer ones, rather based on keyboard and with a more aggressive voice (but average this time). All in all, I think we should take this album as an authentic sample of Black Metal, not compromised yet by all fashionable elements of today's trends... and although it makes use of a bombastic synth it still succeeds in maintaining that mystical dark note.
