HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE "The August Engine"
  • Album: The August Engine
  • Year: 2003
  • Label: CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC
  • Artist:
  • United States

John Cobbett (AMBER ASYLUM, SLOUGH FEG) is the one who hide behind this band, which until no longer ago used to be called UNHOLY CADAVER. The Americans' second album has to offer a complex Metal, full of Heavy Metal frames and even Non-Metal ones, with knotty intertwines and Progressive rhythms, clear vocals (both male and female ones)... sometimes too reedy for a style which is desired to be extreme. In fact, if I think twice this music can be all but extreme and it would rather be in the tone of bands such as MEGADETH, METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN... but with modern Metallic breath. It is a successful interpretation but which, unfortunately, impresses me not as it traces a too shiny sound for my tastes!
