The Swedes third album is keeping its avant-garde note, meaning, it is mixing in a very very peculiar way different styles and phases: Black Metal, Depressive Rock, Ambient and Progressive! The guitars sound similar to the first KATATONIA, their rhythm is not all that accessible on some passages, the keyboard intervenes as well, but pretty rarely, the aggressive voice making itself heard on some tracks too… it is a completely bonkers Metal, if one should look from the point of view of its structure, completely atypical. On the other hand though, it releases an interesting psychotic aura, at the limit of depression, of isolation from the everyday… perhaps of trance. I don’t find the album to be built more intelligently that the previous ones, “Pulver” or “Erotik”, this probably also due to the fact that the surprise element got diluted, however, it must be heard, as, after SHINING, more and more Swedish bands are looking into playing a Dark Metal full of very diverse style insertions. For example, on this album, you find yourself listening to a traditional Austrian or Bavarian song that has nothing to do with anything. It is a more experimental than normal sound, with an avant-garde note that creates the impression of an intelligent album, however, pretty confusing at times. The screaming voice is a reference that makes me think of SHINING, while the guitars and the keyboard frame a sinister atmosphere, all on a completely chaotic drumming background. One thing after the other, a special album!
