YOUR SHAPELESS BEAUTY "My Swan Song"

It has been a long while since I lost contact with these French musicians. I remember in 1995 they tried desperately to use and combine as many and various styles as possible, from Heavy, Gothic or Doom to Death or Black Metal. We always kept in touch and I expected their debut soon to be released. Well, they released only a demo so far and a CD containing some live tracks and a few bonus tracks. What does YSB bring in 2003? Well... a mixture not quite inspired of Dark Doom and Death Metal in which some atmospheric, melodic and even Gothic touches were inserted and outlined by female vocals and a violin. Even if the execution is OK, my disappointment is huge since I find sad that the French musicians are still looking for a musical identity, after more than 10 years of activity. They experiment various fields, from those super brutal to the melodic and atmospheric ones but not putting in any real correlation or any harmony between those extremes. It all seems to be an unfortunate "copy/paste" action. I feel sorry that I have to be that critical with a band that, even if having all the support form the French label, actually brings nothing new. This is just another modest and faded Dark Doom Metal release.
