DER BLAUE REITER (SPA)-Nuclear Sun CD’09
(BLACK RAIN)

Sathorys and Lady Nott are back on the Dark Ambient stage with a new album, more cinematic than the precedents, with an accentuated NeoClassical side, dominated by imposing Martial rhythms and a sad atmosphere.

The topic of the Chernobyl catastrophe is developed by the two in these new tracks, having inserted within these lyrical sequences a lot of passages from classical music or Russian proletarian music, tangled up noises and effects, complex percussion's and an apocalyptic aura.

An album like this particular one can only perceived to its true worth on stage, as the visual component is of great importance, the music resonating to the maximum with the different images of the disaster that occurred 13 years ago in Ukraine.

If you like PUISSANCE or SOPHIA, I'm certain that this work will enchant you, especially as the idea of melody is full on within its content... A plus is also given by the very inspired usage of the piano that manages to develop a grave, heavy dimension, interrupted at times by a heartrending violin that gives a Darker and more bombastic shape than one can put in words.

The only minus is represented by the vocals, who don’t seem to harmonise correctly with the sound, the lack of modulation transforming the act of singing into a simple pronunciation, enumeration or succession of verses! I know that these are the lines and stylistics of Dark Martial but I would have expected Sathorys to break these self imposed but very much used rules, by the bands in the genre… something that he has managed to achieve with the whole instrumentation!
